My jet lag resulted in a few nights of very weird sleep patterns that I am glad have now left my system! I have a bunch of posts in the works about Melbourne – they are really wordy. Ooops.
It was Friday night when Georgina posted this blog post and as a result I ended up at Bubby’s with all the ‘Book Club that isn’t a book club’ girls for brunch on Saturday morning. I’d been to Bubby’s once before for dinner and was keen to try brunch there. But seriously – it was so great to catch up with everyone again. Last year was crazy – between moving to Manhattan, mum and dads visit, trying to finish the family history, trips to Albany, engagement.. and everything else good and bad that happened in 2009, my girly catchup time had been extremely limited.
I finally got to see Georgina’s ever growing bump and also finally meet Genna! We all got a huge table and ordered a wonderful brunch feast. The banana and walnut pancakes were delish – and so huge I could only eat ONE of the three!!
We then meandered around Soho. Seriously – the Anthopologie store was full of so many buyable things I should have walked around there with a blindfold on!
To talk a bit about books, Georgina had been reading The Legend of Edgar Sawtelle. This one was the only book that I have ever had on hold at the library that I had given up on… I had it on there for what seemed like months and cancelled it. She finished it the night before and bought it along for me so I hope to start it this weekend!
Georgina’s post here, summed up brunch perfectly though. It is so easy to get so darn busy in this city that things such as contact with other human beings becomes second to ‘getting stuff done’. I realized when I was back in Melbourne. I quickly realized just how much I miss friends, speaking to them for no reason and contact in PERSON. It is something that no email can replace. This is one reason why I think I love our time in Albany so much when we get up there. It is friends and family that make the place – not necessarily the place itself. There will be more on this topic later.
