The time has come to leave our little Chelsea studio and find a place better suited for two people and the possessions that two people ‘need’ to have.
We’ve subscribed to rentdirect.com as we (or rather I) don’t have the time or patience to sort through the dodgy and non-dodgy Craigslist postings. Bill got this place in one afternoon and it was the first place he ever actually looked at in New York. On the other hand, I need to search apartment reviews, look at every angle on Google street view, measure the steps to the nearest subway and picture my towels and sheets folded in the cupboards of any place.
I have been very keen to move back to Sunnyside – we could get a 2 bedroom there for our price range easily. We were also keen on some areas in Brooklyn but commute time was worrying me. Well now.. we are back on the Brooklyn bandwagon… while still keeping a watchful eye on the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side. But for the kind of kitchen we need and for the kind of space I am dreaming of, I cannot see Manhattan being a real option.
I cannot wait for closets! A linen press! More than one window! Not hearing the fridge make strange noises while I am trying to get to sleep! Not waking up and looking at the microwave clock for the time! More room for my beauty stuff! Oh the possibilities!!!
But my goodness – I am going to miss Chelsea so much. The subway. Our little restaurant Restivo. Being 10 steps from our library. Being close to The Container Store/Home Depot/Bed Bath Beyond/the Bank/my hairdresser/my Nail Place/the post office. Being able to get anywhere in 10 minutes. Ahhhhhh. Maybe the studio apartment would still be fine? 😉
Also, if anyone has any word on any vacant apartments please feel free to email me.
