I am going back and catching up on the Australia visit posts.. some of these may read more like a travel journal entry and sorry for no pics in this one.
Christmas Day came and went in a blur as I was running on pure adrenaline and yet, there were a couple of more surprises to come.
The Friday before I left New York, I gave Nadine’s husband Chris a call at work and told him of my plans, how I wanted to surprise Nadine on Boxing Day and I wanted work out how we could do it.
He told me to come over at lunchtime and he’d look after the rest.
So before I knew it, on Boxing Day morning I was driving along the Eastern Freeway to Nadine’s. I was driving like I hadn’t even been gone a day. The same set of lights that I never make the green on? That still happened!! It was like time had stood still while I had been gone.
Nadine was speechless when she opened the door and I was standing there. It was just bizarre because again, it was like I had never been away. After some tears and some amazingly huge hugs we were sitting on the couch gossiping like normal. Nadine had a baby boy, James, just before I left and to see him wandering around and playing – that was the only real proof that so long had passed!
We were eating our rolls for lunch and chatting away and doing what we would always do. It was awesome. It was about 4.30 when I was getting tired and we decided to call it a day – I wanted to also surprise Bernadette and Luke who lived around the corner from Nadine. I did my usual.. parked the car… rang the doorbell and… no answer. My only fail of the surprises!! (It ends up I probably only missed them by about ten minutes!!)
I jumped back on the freeway and was so excited I could finally tell ‘everyone’ via Facebook and Twitter! That was the only thing I didn’t plan well – both Bernie and Luke and Mum’s cousin Michelle both thought it was strange there was no updates from me in a couple of days..! They knew something was up!
When I got home, I was absolutely wrecked. I was in bed by 7pm and then, Aunty Marg came over for a visit. With mum and Aunty Marg in my room, we sat around talking about not much at all until late. Just as we would always do normally! See what I mean though? Nothing ever changes!!
