This week has been draining – thus the lack of blog posts. We’ve been frantically searching for an apartment. Not because we have to be out next week but because I could not stand waiting to find out where we would be calling home any longer!
Well.. this afternoon that all changed when we found out the place that we inspected on Wednesday night… is now ours!
So we’ll be crossing the bridge and heading into the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn. It is a lovely historic neighbourhood with a great vibe and lots of little cafes and bars. Our commute on the 1 train lately has been so average that this commute will probably be about 5 minutes longer.
The apartment itself is a one bedder in a gorgeous old apartment building with the biggest lobby I have seen. It has an elevator and our little nest is on the 4th floor. Why did we go for this place? The simple fact that the whole thing is being gutted and renovated – everything in the place will be brand new. The kitchen was already installed (without the new stove/fridge) and it was amazing. CUPBOARDS and a PANTRY! The minute we saw the separate kitchen (with enough room for a little drop leaf 2 seater kitchen table by the window) we were sold. Inside the history of the apartment was apparent everywhere we looked – from the old old intercom to the crazy lighting system – it was like stepping back in time.
We will have new floors, new walls, new bathroom, new windows – everything to make it comfy and cosy! The Super was lovely and the building is well maintained. We have a laundry in the basement and it is about 100 steps to the subway.
We can’t wait to get there and make this new place our little home and start discovering our neighbourhood… and also share it with you. 🙂
Just like Blackboard on Mr Squiggle would say.. “HURRY UP!!”
