… if you want a sausage roll!
We have had a beautiful Saturday – cooking and having fun at home!
I have lucked out big time – Bill made the most AMAZING Lemon Pound cake ever. I am not a real cake lover – I’ll have a slice here and there but this cake changed that. It was just beautiful, lemony and fresh. And we are keeping the recipe a secret! Check out this dodgy iPhone pic… the top is like it is due to the lemon/sugar glaze… mmm!
I then set about baking a whole lot of sausage rolls for the Queen of All Saints International Food Night. I had no idea what to expect or how many people were there or what the deal was but we made our sausage rolls and dropped them off in the lower church area right before mass.
Here they are – yummmmm!! Our kitchen still smells like the Four N Twenty factory. This is not a bad thing at all!!
As soon as mass was over we headed downstairs to see what this international food night was all about. Oh. my. goodness! SO many people had prepared dishes – it was amazing! I cannot tell you how fabulous it is to see the trouble that everyone went to and how immensely personal it was. Here it was, people actually sharing not just ‘food’ but the food they have for dinner – their own recipes. Not just whatever is quickest, or whatever a crowd likes – but their own, home cooked food. It was wonderful!
We had so many different dishes – from curries, to many amazing dishes from Trinidad and Tobago, ‘mom’s green beans’ to represent the USA, pasta dishes, delicious desserts, a beautiful noodle dish from the Philippines – we took a trip around the world right here in Brooklyn!
Here are some photos –
The committee did a beautiful job of the table settings –
So many people!
We were all entertained during our meal – including this great steel drum performance – she is only 16!
The raffle ended up being the most hilarious part of the evening. One man won FOUR times! LOL
The Sausage Roll aftermath –
A great part of the night was also meeting more of our neighbours. The community feel in this area is something that has been an added wow-o-wow bonus. We are so lucky – and we also aren’t the only ones who think so.
Anyway, I am already thinking about what to prepare for next year. A pav? Most definitely. Lamingtons? For sure! Vegemite taste testing? You betcha! Any other suggestions? Let me know!
