I am one of those rare (well it seems that way) people that still have an iPod. I have too much music to fit on my iPhone or the Touch so my iPod is still my good friend!
I nearly always play it on shuffle, except when I am in certain moods. Eg. needing a bit of Cali-cool = Fleetwood Mac, annoying people in my carriage = Red Hot Chili Peppers, very early mornings = The Carpenters. When I have it on shuffle, there are some songs that just trigger homesickness within the first ten seconds and unless I’m in the mood, I end up just flicking right past them which annoys me to no end because some of these are my favourite songs ever. There just needs to be a time and place for everything…
My top homesickness songs are –
Hunters and Collectors – Say Goodbye
Do Re Mi – Man Overboard
Midnight Oil – Power and the Passion
Eurogliders – We Will Together
Daddy Cool – Eagle Rock
Divinyls – Science Fiction
Frente – Labour of Love
Australian Crawl – Oh No Not You Again
Icehouse – Love in Motion (it really should be Great Southern Land!)
Bushwackers – Waves of Bondi
INXS – Don’t Change
Crowded House- Now we’re getting somewhere
Cold Chisel – Cheap Wine
Powderfinger – Sunsets
Kylie – Wouldn’t change a thing
It is amazing how songs bring back certain memories. The other day I started listening to the Tea Party (first time in a long time) and I could close my eyes while travelling on the R train and basically transport myself back to four years ago to when I would listen to them on repeat while I was working on some of my Masters assignments with Tyler jumping on my bedroom window. Bizarre.
