I decided to make last Friday ‘Jenelle Day’ and it was great getting so much done!
By 10.30am I had done three loads of washing, moved over Bill’s domain name, website and began transferring mail from server to server and was all showered and dressed.
I then posted mail, dropped off dry cleaning and then headed to my local nail place for a Mani/Pedi. In trying to embrace summer even more, I got my toes painted in Essie Watermelon.
I then headed up to the Upper East Side and wandered around there, got a hot dog at Central Park and got the bus right down 5th so I could enjoy the air conditioned comfort and look out the windows at all the tourists in town for the long weekend. This was just off Park Ave – gorgeous and cool with all the trees.
When I got to 23rd Street this is where my to-do list really kicked in.
I had to partake in my first ever visit to the Time Warner Cable store. We received a letter from them saying we had to pick up a an adaptor for our TiVo to allow them to bring in extra channels. Or something along those lines. It was the most poorly written, long winded letter ever. When I got there the guy at the front said “Well we’ve had unprecedented demand… you’re going to have to wait.” So hold on a minute – they told us to go out of our way to pick up a tuner that we HAD to have and now they were making out as if we were lucky if we got one! The whole scene was just strange. Not to mention the throngs of people in there to PAY their bill… actually lining up to pay. And then the other 30 or so people in the line with old set top boxes, billing issues – it was just a really bad vibe of a place. I was pleased to be out of there within 20 minutes. With the ‘lucky I got one’ set top box in hand. Which means we have yet ANOTHER box in the cabinet. Ugh – Time Warner Cable are the absolute WORST. This is how the store looked –
I went to the bank and then I had a beautiful Mr Whippy soft serve ice-cream and headed to Sephora. I ended up hanging out here for an hour. It had been so long since I had a decent Sephora session – it was great! I needed a new mascara desperately and have decided to try the Blinc Kiss Me mascara as the hot weather has been making my current mascara melt. You really need two sets of makeup here – one for summer and one for winter. Other things – my Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation, Smiths Salve and some other goodies – including a Clinique long lasting lip GLOSS. The Jurlique hand cream was my beauty insider rewards product – it is wonderful to see their products over here.
Then I dropped into Muji. I first went to Muji with Kat in my first month of living here and loved it. So I picked up some necessary things there. I then had to go to Staples – in preparation for the new job (will post more about this later!) I wanted some pretty stationery because it is just so important. It doesn’t take me long to find an excuse to peruse stationery stores. Here are my purchases from Muji and Staples –
I love the dusty pink floral files with the Muji notebook! Pretty! Also – the Muji handwipes are awesome. I never go anything without wet ones in my bag – everything is so grimy on the subway etc it makes a real difference to be able to have clean hands anywhere!
Here is how it was looking up 6th Ave –
I then had to drop into Bed Bath and Beyond – it was crazy in there but because we had to juice so many lemons, limes and oranges for our 4th of July Billemonade, we wanted to get the KitchenAid juicer attachment. I got the last one in the store so it was meant for us! I then had to visit Tekserve (the original Apple store!) to pick up an iPhone 4 case for Bill even though his phone wasn’t getting delivered until nearly the end of July.
After that, I made a wonderful discovery. Dunkin’ Donuts Tropicana Orange Coolata drink is JUST LIKE VERY STRONG COTTEES ORANGE CORDIAL! I ran down to the subway with my drink in hand, jumped on to the F train and was excited to be getting home.. at the same e. Unfortunately for me, I slurped too much of my Coolata too quickly and ended up with the worst brain freeze EVER. I was pulling the most ridiculous faces and holding my forehead – goodness knows what everyone around me thought!
By the time I got home, I was beat. I hopped straight in my jammies, we had an easy dinner, I skyped with mum and dad and I was all ready for bed at 9.30 when Bill said “EMAIL FROM APPLE!!! MY iPHONE IS IN STORE!!!”
This translates to – we have to get dressed and get to 59th Street… NOW.
By the time we got to the Apple store it was 11pm. There was a line snaking through the store of hundreds of people waiting to get to the cash registers. Even though I was surrounded by Apple-ness this was my definition of hell on earth! I got in line while Bill went to find someone to find out what the deal was with his phone. It was then that they let us know that they don’t sell iPhones after midnight and looking at the queue, there would be no way we would be seen by midnight. All those people were wanting iPads. So we got a voucher to come back the next day. Bill told them he’d be there at 7am. And he was.
We now have an iPhone 4 in our house and it is BEAUTIFUL!
