I would need a crazy amount of posts to describe the past four weeks. It has been Intense. Yes, it deserves a capital I.
First things first. Everyone who knows me knows how much I truly detest summer. This summer has been truly horrid. We have had our air conditioner going every minute we are in the apartment. I cannot wait to go to sleep without the hum of motor! I’ve sweated more this summer than I have in my 30 Melbourne summers. It is disgusting and I am truly over it. My energy falters in summer and I am unproductive. That is in a normal summer.. so can you imagine how I am coping with this at the moment? Not good.
Of course, I’ve also started my new job. It has been a challenge and I am right out of my comfort zone. I am trying to be careful with my slang usage and getting to understand not only corporate culture but American corporate culture has been fun. The first few weeks were hard – it was as if I had gone back to full time uni (oops.. college) and my brain has been getting a magnificent workout. For some reason, in my second week I had a terrible bout of homesickness. This normally happens around this time because it is BAS statement time (periodic tax statements in Australia) for mum and dad. I process all of their receipts and produce the statements for them and seeing dads purchases from Bunnings and the local petrol station receipt triggers memories of everything that is familiar. Mum sensed this and sent me over a big care package full of Freddos, Red Frogs, Chicos, Snakes, Cadbury dairy milk and other goodies including my copy of In Black and White – the Collingwood magazine. Thanks mum!
Now to also throw some other things in the mix… Bill got attacked by a bout of Kidney Stones (I never ever ever ever want to be subjected to them!) and we have been putting the finishing touches on the bits and pieces that were outstanding for the wedding. Then there was my rendezvous with Chris Isaak. Our trip to the Hamptons. Our trip to Albany. The shower situation in the apartment finally being fixed. Watching Mad Men episodes like um… mad men. It has been eventful to say the least! I also know I have to finish the blog posts from the last week in Australia. Yes, I know that was months ago. But I want to post them so I have all my memories down. So they’ll be coming up too! My to-do list has shrunk dramatically over the past few weeks which despite what I think, I have been productive in some way so maybe that also why the blog took a back seat. Anyway, now it is time to catch up!
