Jenelle Day

Posted on August 11, 2010August 11, 2010 by Jenelle

The Saturday before I started at Stroock, I needed (another) Jenelle Day.

The awful/mean/rude plumber was coming back to try and fix the shower again (he actually did fix it this time) so I needed to be out of the apartment because I could not bear the thought of having to spend time in the apartment with him there. This is where Bill stepped in and I think he was quite happy to not have to put up with me slamming cupboards in the kitchen in retaliation to the dodgy plumber.

Jenelle Day started off with hanging out back in our old neighbourhood where I still go to my old hairdresser –

10.15am – breakfast at Breadstix on 23rd.
10.30am – appointment at the Unique Threading Salon – I am a total convert to threading. I take two painkillers beforehand and let them make my eyebrows beautiful. The results are so much more long lasting than waxing and my eyebrows just look so much more naturally shaped.
11.00am – off to see Mike for a cut, color and blowdry.
12.30pm – Orange Coolatta at Dunkin’ Donuts. This has been just about one of the best discoveries of my life. This is like icy Cottees Orange Cordial.
1.00pm – Manicure at Iris Nails on 5th Avenue. I decided to try the OPI Axxium (Barefoot in Paris) no chip manicure. It really does work. It was exactly two weeks until chipping started. AMAZING!
2.00pm – Wander around Lexington Ave for a wedding-stuff-appointment. This was awesome because I finally remembered to take photos of the old Barbizon Hotel. For anyone who is a Sylvia Plath fan, we all know this as the Amazon Hotel in The Bell Jar. This was also where Sylvia stayed in real life. Vanity Fair recently published a great article on the history of the Barbizon. I have always wished that I was able to stay there.

Here are some photos I took –

The hotel is now private apartments – Ricky Gervais bought there recently and in the season premiere of Mad Men, Don Draper just dropped his date off at the Barbizon. It is one of my favourite buildings and what a grand building it is. Lexington Avenue is my favourite NY street so… that is my dream apartment building right there!

3.00pm – Bliss 49 appointment. I am yet to find a day spa here that matches Retreat on Spring. The monthly spa experience that I had become accustomed to in Melbourne has been non-existent here. So I decided to book a treatment at the Bliss Spa on Lexington. It was a lovely experience.. but being a Saturday afternoon the relaxation lounge where you wait for your treatments was full of giggling/gossiping women – not really relaxing. Everything else was beautiful… except for the cost. It was really too expensive to justify as a monthly expense but goodness… it was nice and my skin was lovely and glowing afterwards. I could happily get facials/manicures and treatments there every day and not get sick of it!

I was home at 6pm and relaxed for the rest of the night in a post-beauty treatment glow. The Jenelle Day was exactly what I needed! Ahhhh!!
