I have been going through old photos in iPhoto and have realized just how much I have not blogged about.
Over summer we decided to take a day trip to the Hamptons. The main aim was to check out Ina Garten’s house, do some sightseeing and see what the fuss was all about.
For brunch we stopped off at the Country Diner in Middle Island –
I love these little Smucker’s spreads!
Like going back in time, here is the well maintained Yaphank Garage –
I really wanted to visit Loaves and Fishes in Sagaponack. This place has been featured on Barefoot Contessa a lot and it looks gorgeous. So… we went there!
It is off the main road and is a cute little cottage –
Here I am… with proof of how humid it was. FRIZZ!
The prices were CRAZY. This is what $18 worth of chicken soup looks like –
This is for Shannyn – TR’s Meringues!!!!
The best thing about visiting Loaves and Fishes was that the owner, Anna Pump, was actually there working. Even with all her success, she was still behind the counter serving. Awesome! If you can spend the money on her food, it is totally worth it. Everything looked fantastic! We left with a slice of pound cake. To share.
We then drove along to East Hampton. The traffic was AWFUL. Think peak hour traffic that is all sightseeing traffic and people that don’t know where they are going. We got to go down Ina’s street… it is as gorgeous as it looks on TV… there was lots of traffic as there was a wedding going on but this is looking back towards the property.
After cruising around we just had to get out of there. East Hampton was CRAZY. There were people everywhere, nowhere to park and it was testing my patience greatly. So we scooted out and decided to check out Shelter Island. Now this was more to our liking. Laid back, relaxed… it felt like Apollo Bay.
We had to get on a car ferry – fun!
Lots of Red, White and Blue.
It was so peaceful!
As we headed back to the city we stopped at a large roadside stand, Briermere Farms in Riverhead. We bought a blueberry pie to take home… the photos of this place speak for themselves!
Lots of varieties of farm fresh tomatoes –
The ‘Pie’ board –
Lots of fresh produce –
They had lots of everything –
The outdoor garden area –
We decided to stop further along for some dinner and salvation was found in a dodgy strip mall in Centereach!
We weren’t sure what we wanted but when we saw ‘Greek Restaurant’ we thought – YES! Well when we drove into the actual mall I said to Bill that we’d just look at it and see… behind the 80’s vibe of the mall with neon lighting and all, Voulapitta Greek Restaurant actually happened to serve up some of the best Greek food we have ever had. It was delicious. Now… when you see the interior of the restaurant you will see why we were not 100% sold that this would be a good meal… it was weird!
After dinner we had a look around the mall. I lucked out that there was a Jo-Ann Arts and Craft store and I got some cross stitch kits for 50% off!
So while feeling somewhat underwhelmed at the actual Hamptons, it was a good little day trip. We would not hesitate to head back to Shelter Island again! East Hampton? Hmmmm not so much!
