Last Friday night, we had our awesome date night at Carnegie Hall to see Joel McHale perform as part of the New York Comedy Festival! It was the first time there for both of us and it was a fantastic night out. We started with dinner at the little French bistro nearby on Broadway, Brasserie Cognac de Monsieur Ballon. It was a lovely little place, with a cozy ambiance and great background music. They have a nice little pre-theater menu so we made use of that.
Once we got in to Carnegie Hall, one thing I couldn’t believe was just how comfy the seats were. Inside, it is just stunning and so well maintained. It was great to be in an old venue and not having to sit on each others laps. While we were waiting for the show to start, mum rang so Bill caught the moment!
For the show there were two ‘support acts’ for Joel. KP Anderson (writer for the Soup) was great. Donald Glover (from Community) was AWESOME. If you ever get to see him, you should. Joel was great! Because we watch him every week, you are used to his presentation and style of his jokes so it wasn’t like “Whoa!” but it was great to see him live. I loved that he started his act with a reference to Chicken Tettrazini!
What I loved was how genuinely happy and grateful each performer was to be given the opportunity to perform at Carnegie. Even better was we made it back home at 9.55pm – just in time for the latest Soup episode.
