On the 12th day of Christmas…

Posted on January 6, 2011 by Jenelle

I finish up the 12 days of Christmas blogging challenge with a pretty mundane day actually!

I started my name change process. UGH! The Social Security office here in Brooklyn is so crazy that it opens at 7am… yes a government office! The lines normally snake through the building and out on the street. A four hour wait is not uncommon. I meant to get there at 7am but slept in so I jumped out of bed, threw on clothes and got there at about 8.15am. I was so stressed that I’d be there all morning BUT…

I was out of there at 8.30!

There was no-one there. Seriously, here… that is like winning the lottery! I then had a walk to the DMV to change my license. Disaster struck there when they told me I had to get a new photo taken. The ONE DAY I didn’t do my hair – I had it back in a headband and my hat on… and also no makeup and I think I still had creases on my face from my pillow. Then they took it when I didn’t realize they were going to… she didn’t do a countdown or anything. So at least I have that to look forward to in the mail. The wait at the DMV was a bit longer but I was still home by 9.30… which was very unexpected!

On the way home I took some photos along Lafayette Ave –

I love the look of this corner store –

Layfayette Grocery & Dairy

Stoops!

Golden Gate?

Leftover snow

Snow. Still.

Side street

Fort Greene

These seem more at home in San Fran rather than on Lafayette!

They seem out of place...

When I got up to our street an ambulance came speeding up beside me. A car accident had just happened and thankfully there seemed to be no serious injuries but the paramedics were being cautious –

Car wreck

Car wreck

It is awful to know that only a few months ago there was a lady killed on her Vespa on one corner, then another bad accident with a bus and now this – and these are just the ones we see! I don’t get it as this is a particularly good area to drive around with wide roads, lots of one way streets and traffic lights at every intersection. Yet, people still speed, still play on their phones and still don’t pay attention. Ugh.

Which seems like a perfect time to remind everyone about the Oprah No Phone Zone Pledge.
