Last Saturday we spent the afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum to visit the exhibition on Norman Rockwell. I love Norman Rockwell’s work – I first came to know of him in a very strange way. About ten years ago there was a movie on the Australian Hallmark Channel called Norman Rockwell’s Breaking Home Ties. I had never heard of Norman Rockwell before so ended up searching for more information about him. The movie was based on his painting ‘Breaking Home Ties’ and was about a teenager and only child going off to college in the 1950s. Back in 2002 I was visiting Philadelphia and I ended up visiting the now closed Norman Rockwell museum which fueled my appreciation for his work even more. When Bill mentioned that there was a special exhibition right here in Brooklyn, I couldn’t say no!
I decided to take some photos during our walk to the museum of some of the houses on the way there as I love being able to share where we live with everyone back in Australia.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t take photos in the exhibition but it was fantastic and explained how he used photographs of models posing as the basis of his work. It is well worth seeing! The best thing about the Brooklyn Museum was there were no long lines, no flocks of tourists and with it being such a cold day outside, it made a perfect museum experience.
It was such a relaxing day… and to make it even better, Bill had got up early and made a beautiful White Bean Soup. We picked up a crusty baguette from the Brooklyn Victory Garden and had that for dinner when we got home!
