With Lent being a time for reflection I don’t know where my current thoughts stemmed from but… this was totally random today.
In between my walk from the Brooklyn Museum subway station to the Brooklyn Public Library for my volunteer shift, I was thinking about how lucky I have been to have travelled to so many places and met so many amazing people around the world. Then for some reason, I started thinking about various places I had traveled around Australia. Then I thought of Newcastle. Then I remembered what I did there. So I came home to go through my iPhoto collection to remember the fun times of the trip… so I thought I would share it!
Before I moved to New York, I went up to New South Wales for the annual Collingwood vs Sydney game. I stayed with Shannyn, Ken and the kids on the Central Coast and then as we always would, we’d head down to Sydney for the day for the game.
Here I am with some random pics with the girls… how gorgeous are they? We were pretending we were on Australia’s Next Top Model.
Then in Sydney we made our way to the ground.. look at the seats we had at the game! We beat the Swannies and we beat them well… it was an awesome night!!
The next day it was time to go back to Melbourne. As I was leaving from Newcastle and I had never spent any time there so decided to leave early (with lots of tears!) and see what Newcastle had to offer.
I finally made it to the Star Hotel. Star Hotel is one of my favourite Cold Chisel songs and standing outside (looking in!) I could really feel what went on when the riots happened there.
Here is the Chisel filmclip –
Here is a great overview on the riots that took place there in the 1979.
Then I went to Harry’s Cafe de Wheels and got a Meat Pie with mushy peas and gravy and sat by the water and devoured it… mmmm.
And that is what I thought about today in my five minutes of peace from one place to another.
