It was my birthday this weekend and it was fantastic because we did… nothing.
To be honest, being all settled back in to normal life has been great and having a day in my pyjamas was BLISS. I got breakfast in bed. Then I did nothing. Watched four hours of 90210, cleared some TiVo shows, tidied up a bit, wandered around but all in all – nothing. I got so many gorgeous cards, phone calls, texts and emails – it was lovely!
My favourite cake is orange cake – Bill baked it from scratch as my birthday cake. It was DELICIOUS!
Then, the best was yet to come. Bill ordered a beautiful leg of lamb for my dinner. I LIVE FOR ROAST LAMB. I have only had roast lamb 3 times in the past 2.5 years – those were the three times I went back to Australia. When we ordered it on Fresh Direct we did so thinking we’d get a nice sized leg. When it arrived it was MASSIVE.
And… expensive –
It was roasted perfectly and here was the end result. It was so juicy and flavourful. It was the perfect birthday dinner – with the ultimate dinner wine – Cottee’s Cordial!
So since then we have had leg of lamb sandwiches, rolls and been snacking on it – it really is the gift that keeps on giving!
Daylight savings also started here which means that now I feel weird for the next 7-8 months. I cannot stand daylight savings and mum has already told me off because I whinge about it so much but it just does not feel natural to me. After a quick Google search I was happy to know I am not alone – there is a whole group devoted to ending the daylight savings insanity. It is so difficult especially because I essentially ‘live’ in two continents at once and operate over different time zones already – a change in time means I have to work out times it is in Australia again and it is like being back a square one. END IT!
After Mass on Sunday we wandered around the neighbourhood where I promptly broke my “I will be more patient” rule for Lent. We were at the Associated supermarket and all we had were some rolls, a loaf of bread and a few other bits and pieces. I cracked it after we waited for two minutes then went outside and tapped my feet for another fifteen. Bill still hadn’t been served. He is SO patient that it drives ME crazy. I ended up huffing and puffing and walking home because I couldn’t stand out the front of that place any longer. I felt awful and it is something I definitely have to work on. So that was my birthday – full of Jenelle foot stomping and carrying on but ultimately full of lots of love and pyjamas. Perfect!
