The biggest discussion topics of the past couple of weeks here in the city seems to be the realization that we’re all going to have to start paying more for stuff that has been free for a long time on the internet aka the New York Times.
Because of the way the subscriptions work, we’ve opted for a Saturday and Sunday delivery that gives us full access to the site and access for the iPad and iPhone. The NYT’s iPad app is absolutely fantastic and I even find easier to read than the website. Using the app and the site for access and getting the hard copy delivered on the weekends, we are definitely getting our moneys worth. Is there anyone reading this outside of New York that is considering or has bought a subscription? I know if I was still in Australia, there is no way I’d be paying the monthly fee to access it even though I used to read it all the time when I was back home. Saying that, I doubt I’ll find the time to read the hard copy version as I have got so used to reading news online since moving here and not having the paper waiting outside every morning. I will be sure to report on whether the hard copy has been a waste or we’re enjoying Saturday morning with eggs, toast and newsprint all over our hands!
