One big discussion point of the wedding was the good luck favours that mum passed on to me after the ceremony.
I knew no different so I didn’t think anything of it but everyone else the wedding was baffled. It was only afterwards that we realized that the tokens for good luck are an Irish/English tradition that was carried over to Australia. So no wonder it was a bit weird!
When the ceremony was over I quickly went over to mum and dad for lots of hugs and kisses and mum proceeded to slip all of the favours over my arm for me to carry out. Various people had given them to mum in Australia for her to pass on and they are then kept as keepsakes with my dress and veil. Each of them had a little card.. some were also handmade and they are just draped over your arm.
I got so many questions about them it was hilarious and what I love is that this is exactly how traditions entwine themselves within different nationalities!
Here I am with them all hanging off my arm –
Here they are up close –
