Solemn.
Bill and I worked half a day so we could make it to the 3pm service at Queen of All Saints. It was heartbreaking and moving and almost felt intensely personal. At my former job, we got Good Friday off in accordance with the public holiday in Australia over this time. So this made it the first ever Good Friday I have worked in all my life. It just didn’t feel right and in the future I think we’ll make another tradition together and hope to take the whole day off. Fasting while at work is also really hard. We decided to make our main meal of the day lunchtime and I think that helps to last through.
When we got home I sat down and watched Passion of the Christ for the first time. I spent many moments covering my eyes and it was almost too much to watch straight after the 3pm service but I am glad I did. It is graphic and distressing but it felt necessary.
We spent the rest of the night getting our bags ready for Albany, packing the sweets we had made to share with everyone and having a big phone chat with mum while tracking the total of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. It wasn’t until 11pm that we finally sat down to watch A Walton Easter. The acting was bad, it looked nothing like it was filmed in 1969 as it was supposed to reflect and we only lasted half way through before bedtime called.
We cannot wait until Easter Sunday!
