Living in Brooklyn has been unbelievably nice to us. We really lucked out with our apartment and location. I have previously written about the BAM Rose cinemas which are just down the road, but there is also the BAM Harvey Theatre.
The BAM gets some seriously big names working there. A deal with the Sydney Theatre Company meant that Cate Blanchett was here last year performing in A Streetcar Named Desire and Geoffrey Rush was just here recently in Diary of Madman.
On one freezing night in January, Eileen and Eric came down from Albany and we all went along to see John Gabriel Borkman. This was starring Alan Rickman. YES. THE ALAN RICKMAN.
I am not a Harry Potter person and I had not seen Die Hard – until after the play when we got home and Bill made sure we all watched it! But I knew Alan Rickman from Love Actually and this Texas clip for In Demand that I have loved forever –
The play was great. There were still remnants of one of the snow storms out in the streets, it was about 15F when we were walking there and when we got into the theatre, the play was based around a set of snow drifts. The seats in the theatre were crazy. Next time we know to sit on the lower level. Luckily, we were in the first row of the upper level so we actually got to sit with our feet up on the ledge (I cannot believe I sat like that) but it was the only way to sit comfortably on what were basically bar stools that felt like you were about to fall over the edge.
Another bonus is I now have the pleasure of saying Alan Rickman and I were once in the same room in Brooklyn!
