Ahhh Samboy Chips. They are one of the strongest Salt and Vinegar flavored chips ever. Their chicken flavored range is just as good with a yellowy chicken stock cube color. Even better? The BBQ flavor! Back in the day they had a gold lining on the inside of the chip packet that you could rub onto your hands and be all glittery when you finished eating the chippies!
Samboy chips are my favorite and I have always preferred them to Ruffles or Smiths Thins or any other style of chip. The only Salt and Vinegar flavor that comes close for me is the Pringles brand. The winner for Samboy is that their ads were also kind of epic.
The one I first remember was this –
That had a follow up with this –
That became this –
Then when the 90s came around it was time to get some B-grade celebrities in on the act. We can make Marcus Graham an exception because he is/was/will always be a hottie.
This one was like a tribute to the greatness of E-Street –
They also made a rocker version starring Dave Gleeson –
And then this one with a slight variation where we even see the Chantoozies!
Interesting that Dermott Brereton was featured in those ads – he was such a media megastar of the day. Remember, he also starred in the Tip-Top Bread commercial. We actually used to call that bread ‘Dermie Bread’.
