I recently read Unsweetined by Jodie Sweetin. You probably know her as Stephanie ‘How Rude!’ Tanner from Full House. I have always loved some downtime reading autobiographies (mainly of the trashy nature) but I thought this book wasn’t bad. I had no idea about how serious her drug problems were but there were some points where it was getting quite tiresome. I felt bad because I was almost saying aloud “Yeah, ok, whatever – you relapsed… AGAIN!”
The book did give me a bit of an idea into what the life of a child star is like – especially when it comes to the point of trying to be normal at school and then being on hugely popular TV show every week. The book seemed a little rushed though – she would probably be able to write a sequel about the past few years as a follow up. It was frustrating because the book was published just as it seemed her life was getting back on track with the birth of her daughter, but we didn’t get to enjoy this with her. She comes across as very honest and genuine and there were some funny moments in the book amongst all the darkness.
Ultimately, it felt like a light read on a serious subject and read almost like her personal diary. Not bad if you would like a snapshot into one of the biggest sitcoms of the 90s (and one that I still love) but don’t expect anything particularly ground breaking.
