Yesterday morning, brunch was devoured at Freemans. A great little spot in the Lower East Side that was located right at the end of Freeman Alley. The Alley itself took me right back to Melbourne. It was eerie how I could’ve opened my eyes and had been right back in the middle of the CBD in on of Melbourne’s art infused alleys. The food was fantastic. Oh bless real scrambled eggs. And real sausages. And a great atmosphere. And oh-so-hip staff.
The purpose for brunch? Book Club! Our first book was Night by Elie Wiesel. Yes, it was sad – but it provoked a good discussion (after we had finished eating!) and collective memory sharing from travels/experiences and what we learnt of the holocaust in school and over time. It was a great book to start our book club with and albeit one book that should always be either taught in schools or on recommended reading lists.
It also ensured that our next book choice will be a little more… humorous.
Hurrah to our first book club meet. It was fantastic!
