So a few posts back – I was about to head out to see Lindsey Buckingham in concert. It was an AMAZING show. It was the best performance I have seen him play recently – better than the Fleetwood Mac reunion tour and better than his solo PBS Soundstage performance. The energy on stage was fantastic. But let me back track a little bit.
I had never been to the Nokia Theatre in Times Square before so when I booked online, I thought I was quite a way back from the stage. I didn’t mind as I was happy that I was just going to be there. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and found I was this close to the stage –
The venue is TINY. Such an intimate show setting! I could NOT believe it. With this position I thought I had really lucked out and would get great photos. Unfortunately not. I had never, ever seen security like it. Even people with PHONES were having torches shone into their eyes and being told to put them away. Having security ruin the vibe of a show is, quite frankly, a pain and they were a lot more annoying than the people who constantly have their phones up taking photos thinking they are actually going to be good photos! 😉 This went on during the whole show – even during the encore when the crowd surged forward to the stage. Bah! Nevertheless, one guy still managed to film the whole show and has the bootleg DVD for sale. You can see one of his clips from the show in the list below.
One great thing though – NO SUPPORT ACT. Hurrah!!! (Don’t get me wrong, I love some support acts but sometimes, you just want to see THE act…!)
The setlist was awesome – with a mix of old and new. Of the oldies he played I got to hear –
Trouble
Big Love
Tusk (awesome!)
A back-to-the-original-version of Go Insane
Go your own way (watch especially from 3.30 mark)
Second Hand News
World Turning
Never Going Back Again
I’m So Afraid
His new tracks were great and carried their own well during the show. I mean this in the way that when the songs were getting played, people didn’t leave their seats. It says a lot for how good the concert was. Without being biased, Lindsey’s energy was fantastic during the show and I doubt there would be anyone there who would be disappointed with what they saw. He really ruled the stage from start to end and it was a pleasure to experience in such a great little venue.
Here is a nice little review from New York magazine. As I couldn’t take any pictures, I’ll use the one they used.
