Friday night started off perfectly well – we upgraded from Filet-O-Fish Friday’s to actually eating at a seafood restaurant. As Bill is a much more devout blogger than I am when it comes to eating at restaurants, you can check out his review of our dinner at the lovely Mermaid Inn here.
Saturday was one of those great days where housework, laundry and everything was done at record speed. I love these days and the fact that the sun was shining and there was a gorgeous breeze throughout the city made the day even better and meant that I could actually sit down and think “I have nothing to do right now…” Best feeling ever!
On Sunday we had a little day trip up to New Canaan, Connecticut. I found out about New Canaan through Mary’s blog and thought, being a mere hour away on the train it would be the perfect place to go for a lunch and walk around somewhere different.
So we boarded at Grand Central with bagels and coffee/hot chocolate for a late breakfast and everyone else had the same idea because everyone was walking around with cups and paper bags. The time passed quickly and to get to New Canaan, you make a quick train change at Stamford, Connecticut.

When we alighted at New Canaan I soon realized this was one of those classic American towns. So clean, quiet and lots of big cars and cute shops. A lot of stuff was still closed but it was nice just walking around in such a quiet place. We found a lunch place called Gates Restaurant.
We ordered and this is what arrived –
Yum-o!!
This place had a lot of action happening and there were lots of families and a mingling lot of women who looked like extras in the TV series The Real Housewives of… Then an elderly gentleman had a heart attack so in the next area were a team of paramedics helping this man out.
Then we decided to take another walk up the main street and ended up at the New Canaan Toystore which is, as they say on their front window, the oldest toystore in New England. Wow – this place had everything! Mr Potato Heads, Lego, board games, crafts, car kits, train sets – it was fantastic. We picked up a box of Uno and ended up playing some long games once we got home. Addiction plus!
