After a stellar weekend (photos and video to come) and a horrendous trip home which involved ridiculous amounts of time sitting in standstill traffic, by 7pm I was at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 34th Street to see Kylie perform. From what I know, Bill stayed at home playing I should be so lucky on repeat. 😉
It had been 7 years since I last saw her perform seeing as I was one of those that returned my Showgirl Tour tickets so it was time for another dose of Kylie-ness!
Coincidentally, Kylie is actually the first concert I ever attended. Mum took me to her ‘Rhythm of Love’ concert in Melbourne when I was 12 and that was when Kylie looked like this –
We had spent time pre-concert around the corner at the bar of the New Yorker and when we wandered around at 8.20ish… the show had just started!! Whaaaaaa??! Again – crazy NY concert times are all over the place! It is impossible to know when a show is actually going to start or finish or break or anything!!!
With that we got into position and danced and danced and danced! Quite simply – it was VINTAGE KYLIE! No ridiculous showgirl costumes and elaborate changes… it was like old Kylie. Curly, carefree hair, lots of fun and lots of dancing! Out of the four times I have seen her, this was the best show I had seen her do. She was so comfortable and was having a great time.
Here is one of the pics that Michael and Camille took –
The setlist for the show was –
1. Overture
2. “Light Years”
3. “Speakerphone” (Remix version)
4. “Come Into My World”
5. “In Your Eyes”
6. Medley:
1. “Shocked” (with excerpts from: “Do You Dare?”, “It’s No Secret”, “Give Me Just a Little More Time”, “Keep on Pumpin’ It” and “What Kind of Fool (Heard All That Before)”)
2. “What Do I Have to Do?” (contains excerpts from “Over Dreaming (Over You)”)
3. “Spinning Around” (contains excerpts from “Step Back in Time” along with elements of “Finally” and “Such a Good Feeling”)
7. “Better Than Today” (New song)
8. “Like a Drug”
9. “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” (contains excerpts from “Boombox”)
10. “Slow”
11. “2 Hearts”
12. “Red Blooded Woman” (contains excerpts from “Where the Wild Roses Grow”)
13. “Heart Beat Rock” / “Wow”
14. “White Diamond” (Ballad version)
15. “Confide in Me”
16. “I Believe in You” (Ballad version)
17. “Burning Up” (contains excerpts from “Vogue”)
18. “The Loco-Motion”
19. “Kids”
20. “In My Arms”
21. Encore:
1. “Better the Devil You Know”
2. “The One”
3. “Love at First Sight”
Our show also included an a cappella version of Your Disco Needs You. Only other person I recognized at the show was my musical hero, Michael Gudinkski. Ever since I was young, it was my dream to work at Mushroom Records and though he is one of those people who you always happen to see around Melbourne, it was great to see him in NY supporting Kylie – especially since he signed her for Locomotion back in the day!
So after lots of dancing and singing the concert was over and chatting out the front of the ballroom in front of the food vans meant that I smelt like I had been at a bonfire all night!
Here we all are after the awesome show – thanks Kylie! Come back and visit us again! 🙂
