Our Fall Foliage trip has come and gone. It was a busy three days but it was everything I imagined and more! Saying that, photos and videos DO NOT give justice to how beautiful the foliage looks and how beautiful the scenery is.
We got our car in New Jersey and along the way we got to drop into the Sonic Drive Thru. I have not had Sonic since I was in Texas… Cherry Limeaids to go!!!
It is exactly like you see… you drive into the car park, find a spot to park and every spot has a board to order from. You place your order and then your food comes out by someone on rollerblades carrying your food on a tray!
We made it to Dan and Paula’s at about 9pm where we had a delicious home made chicken pot pie waiting for us! By midnight we were positively beat and hit the sack. Because it was dark when we were driving, I didn’t have the chance to actually see any foliage. But waking up, looking across to the beautiful lake and seeing the trees in full color change was just PERFECT!
We hit Uncle Henry’s, a local eatery for a quick breakfast and hit the road. This was the view from our table –
After that we drove.
And drove.
And drove.
Going by my Yankee Magazine article, we decided to take Route 100 up through Vermont and the Green Mountain National Forest. We then went through Burlington and took a ferry to Plattsburgh, NY where we had booked accommodation. Columbus Day weekend is the weekend for leaf peeping so we didn’t have any options for accommodation in Burlington, yet a short ferry ride away and we were able to get a room for $75! We ate dinner at the local Friendly’s – where our server was a guy called… Batman! He gave us another persons check by mistake so Bill took great pleasure in saying “Hey… Batman!!” across the restaurant.
We then got up early on Sunday morning and as we had to be back in Albany for a family lunch, we hit the road and went along historic Route 9. It was beautiful! We accidentally took a wrong turn to get to where we actually wanted and ended up at ‘Audable Chasm’ – it was beautiful! The sound of water, the crisp morning air and the colorful foliage made for a great surprise by the side of the road.
Again, the photos and video really do not convey how beautiful the weekend was.
So here are my set of photos from the weekend.
And here is the video –
The rest of the weekend was spent finalizing wedding stuff… which that is a whole different blog post in itself. But in the meantime, you can always check out www.billandjenelle.com. It has been up for a few weeks now…! 😉
