Josephine is buried at the beautiful St. Charles Cemetery on Long Island. We had never been there before or knew what to expect before we buried her. All we knew is they had a place especially for babies called the ‘Holy Innocents’ section and that made us certain we wanted that for her.
When she was buried, Father Joe drove Bill and I all the way out there for a little ceremony at her resting place. It was a miserable day – pouring with rain and cold. It was terrible leaving her casket out in the open, waiting for the cemetery staff to lower her into the ground. I thought she would be lowered at the time. I just didn’t know what to expect.
Her headstone wasn’t ready until just before our first visit – Holy Saturday 2014. We were so nervous to be heading back there but there was no need to be. It was beautiful! The sun was shining and even though the grass hadn’t grown yet, everything was just so peaceful.
This is how her grave looked when we first arrived –
We cleaned up the area and planted a beautiful posy for her with some pansies for Easter –
The Holy Innocents section at St. Charles is the perfect resting place for so many little angels –
By Summer 2014, the grass had grown!
For her first Christmas we decorated her gravesite accordingly –
For Easter 2015, we got another posy like she had the year before –
