A couple of weeks ago I headed out on a steamy evening to hang out in Times Square and see Chris Isaak play at the Nokia Theatre. Obviously, a lot more different than the gig last year but I have to say, the Nokia Theatre is awesome for live music.
The support act was Marc Broussard who was just perfect and really got everyone grooving along with his tunes.
Then it was time for Chris Isaak himself. I was sitting in the front row to the side of the stage, right at the feet of Roly the bass player.. the same side I was sitting last year. Being at the show on my own, I started talking to the girls beside me but then we all got quiet very quickly when the lights went down. Chris came out on stage to a thunderous applause. Then he started singing Dancin’.
This here is Dancin’…
He got to the lines –
Why don’t you help me? Why don’t you guide me?
Why don’t you promise? To stand beside me.
And what does he do? He looked STRAIGHT AT ME and SUNG THOSE WORDS. Yes… I was SERENADED by THE MAN HIMSELF. And with that, the whole crowd proceeded to turn and look my way. All I remember was my jaw hitting the floor and then my face proceeding to turn beetroot red.
The rest of the show was fantastic. Especially the part when he walked down the side staircase, stood right at my feet and started to sing Love Me Tender. Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow. Yes, it was an absolutely awesome night and that basically perfect show made the walk to 9th Ave and a 20 minute wait for a cab home all the more bearable. Here are some of my photos.
